Atomic Snow
Thursday 25th November 2010
Well a lot has happened since my last post, in fact it has been non-stop. We have all been flat out in the office trying to finish off our main brochure for next year's tour. It is the same every year, we are always flapping around at the last minute putting final touches to specific itineraries, trying to contact certain guides, looking for better photographs etc, etc. Alison is in her element coordinating everyone, checking prices, prodding suppliers. Andrew is a blur writing copy - he has such a skill - to be able to write about anything, anywhere or anyone quickly and accurately while still being readable is a fantastic gift. Everyone is involved. So we press the print button on Monday and two weeks later a lorry full of the last three months work, and next year's potential will arrive at the back of Eden Park House - so if you would like to order a copy of next year's brochure please do so by emailing - inf0@brightwaterholidays.com
I was back in Norfolk (again!) I am beginning to know the A47 to Kings Lynn very well; I was speaking to a really nice Garden Club at a small village called Reepham, just to the north of Norwich. A good turn out for a cold and foggy night. On the way back I was supposed to stay over at some faceless Premier Inn near Peterborough but I couldn't face it, so I just motored home arriving back in Somerset at 2.00am.
Kay and I are just back from the AITO Overseas Conference in Brussels www.aito.co.uk . This is a most enjoyable gathering of Independent Tour Operators; like-minded people, who run similar businesses in different markets. I always try and attend this conference to meet up with old friends and see how everyone is getting on. It was a great success - going by Eurostar was a big hit and much less stress than flying - I can see why more and more people want to travel by train. We will certainly be offering more and more train options for our tours going forward. I didn't see much of Brussels itself as the conference was all in the one building, however we did get a glimpse of the main square in the evening and the gala dinner was held at the top of the Atomium www.atomium.be which was very spectacular. That said, I think I was sitting under a air conditioning vent all night and it was freezing - so much so I've come back to Cupar with a stinking cold. Another highlight of the conference was my appearance playing football against a side made up from Belgium Hoteliers and the Tourist Board. It seemed like a good idea at the time however I think the old magic from the days when I was Player of the Year for Glenelg F.C. in 1981 are long gone - I could hardly walk on Monday morning! Good job you don't have to move to far from your desk when you are proof reading a brochure.
The year is turning full circle - I woke this morning in Cupar to find snow had fallen - it seems just recently that I was blogging about last year's snow and the iceberg in the car park. Of course I took some photos but I don't have the little fiddly bit to download the images - you'll have to wait for that 'til next week.
